The activities of the Survey Department of Rijkswaterstaat*) The four institutes (Dehra-Dun, Bogota, lle-lfe, Bandung) on which ITC cooperated in the consulting and educa tional field are now completely in hands of the govern ment of the countries where they are located. During the first period of five years experts of the coun tries have worked in intensive collaboration with the ITC-colleagues. The first mentioned experts now have taken over the management of these institutes comple tely. In concluding it can be stated that the brilliant idea and initiative of prof. dr. ir. Schermerhorn has resulted in a well known institute, active on the terrain of the develop ing aid. Developing aid given in this way must be one of the best. With knowledge of so many techiques, people can improve the standard of living in their countries. The Dutch government supports the principals of ITC strongly and gives fellowships to students of the so called concentration countries in the first place. Of all ITC students about 70% receive a Dutch fellowship. In ITC itself a great opportunity exists for research in many fields and in good cooperation between the vari ous disciplines. by ir. R.
