IAESTE
De internationale IAESTE organisatie vervult een belangrijke rol bij
de bemiddeling voor praktisch werk in het buitenland voor studen
ten in de technische wetenschappen.
Tijdens de FIG PC87, welke recent in Oslo heeft plaatsgevonden,
is de volgende resolutie aangenomen, welke wij hiermee graag
onder de aandacht van studenten geodesie en landmeetkunde
brengen.
The International Association for the Exchange of Students for
Technical Experience (IAESTE)
Report to the 54th PC from the IAESTE Task Force which was
established by the 18th FIG General Assembly
FIG wishes to encourage senior students in geodesy, land survey
ing and hydrography to make use of the existing possibilities to
experience professional and cultural activities abroad by taking up
temporary training in their field of study during their vacation
periods, and to encourage employers in the surveying profession to
make such places available to foreign surveying students.
For this purpose, FIG has made contacts with the IAESTE organi
zation in several countries to further these aims. The aims of
IAESTE are;
,,to provide students at institutions of higher education with tech
nical experience abroad relative to their studies in the broadest
sense;
to promote international understanding and goodwill amongst the
students of all nations."
Forty-two countries are members of IAESTE which arranges ex
change of students in the following ways. Each member country
collects offers from industrial and other organizations for receiving
students from abroad for a temporary training period in close con
nection with the students' field, as a supplement to the students'
university or college education. The offering companies or organi
zations are expected to pay students a wage sufficient to enable
them to cover their cost of living during the actual training periods.
These offers are exchanged with other member countries on a
reciprocal basis, normally during the annual conference in January
(General Conference or Exchange Conference).
Through their affiliated universities and colleges, member countries
select qualified students from the applicants for a training period
abroad in order to fill the offers received from other members.
The IAESTE organization in receiving countries arranges for neces
sary permits, lodging, and in many cases for social and cul
tural programmes during or after the training period. The IAESTE
organization in sending countries insures the students against acci
dents and illness. Students pay their own transportation expenses,
sometimes taking benefit of travel facilities arranged through
sending countries.
IAESTE exchange participation is open to bona fida students fol
lowing courses at universities, institutes of technology and similar
higher institutions. Many countries also exchange students taking
full-time courses at colleges or technical schools below university
level.
The main aim of the Association is to exchange students during
their long vacations, i.e. for 8- 12 weeks. Bilateral arrangements
can be made for longer training periods, i.e. between 3 - 12
months, which helps to develop long-distance exchanges, or for
training periods in the southern hemisphere. For various reasons
IAESTE cannot include persons who have not started their studies
at institutes of higher education or have left their universities or
colleges. However, an exception can be made for students doing
their practical training immediately after final examinations. Post-
doctorate trainees will normally not be accepted.

Recognising the long-term benefits of such exchanges to younger
colleagues of FIG, to students, employers and to international co
operation and understanding, each Member Association of FIG is
strongly encouraged to promote this opportunity by:
1. Publishing widely this general information and the address of
the local IAESTE office from which more information is avail
able.
2. Nominating an individual within the Member Association of FIG
to liaise with IAESTE, with local education institutions and
employers, and with the nominated individuals in other Member
Associations to assist in making the necessary contacts in the
area of surveying.
3. Seeking sources of additional funds to encourage more ex
changes to take place.
4. Encouraging survey organizations in the member countries to
increase the opportunities for training under IAESTE.
The 54th PC is asked to endorse this report and to extend the work
of the Task Force for a further year to monitor progress.

PBNA 75 JAAR
Op 15 september 1912 werd PBNA opgericht door E. J. Rothuizen
(later: Rotshuizen!) en F. Wind. Deze maand wordt dan ook het
75-jarig jubileum van deze instelling voor schriftelijk onderwijs ge
vierd met o.a. een wedstrijd voor cursisten.
Bij dit technicumwerd al vroeg landmeetkunde gedoceerd en
een felicitatie in dit blad is dus op zijn plaats! In NGT Geodesia
1985, p. 12 - 17, werd een lezing gepubliceerd, die een PBNA-
studiecoördinator op een NGL studiedag hield.

CARTOCAD-PC
CartoCAD-PC is een door het ingenieursbureau Bravenboer Er
Scheers ontwikkeld programmapakket voor landmeetkundige toe
passingen. Het pakket is geschikt voor gebruik op o.a. IBM PC-AT
of XT/286, de nieuwe IBM PS/2 en daarmee „compatible" com
puters.
CartoCAD-PC bestaat uit een aantal modules dat het gehele traject
in de kaartvervaardiging bestrijkt en dat afzonderlijk kan werken.
Het pakket kan worden uitgebreid met een database-module, die
door koppeling van topografische en administratieve gegevens een
