NIEUW MEETVAARTUIG VOOR RWS-ZEELAND
De directie Zeeland van de Rijkswaterstaat (RWS) heeft
eind februari 1993 een nieuw, ultramodern meetvaartuig
in gebruik genomen. De Scaldis (Schelde) is voor het uit
voeren van loepzuivere dieptemetingen uitgerust met een
automatische piloot, gekoppeld aan moderne plaatsbe-
palingsapparatuur. Het schip heeft ruim anderhalf mil
joen gulden gekost. Het is 15 meter lang, 4,70 meter
breed en heeft een diepgang van slechts 92 centimeter.
Dat stelt de Scaldis in staat om bij hoog water over zand
platen heen te varen en ook daarvan de hoogte te peilen.
Tot nu toe gebeurde dat handmatig, en te voet, door een
zogenoemde waterwasploeg", aldus „Profiel", het week
blad van Verkeer Waterstaat. Door deze ploeg uitge
voerde metingen kostten ongeveer een week tijd. De
Scaldis kan dit werk nu in één hoogwater uitvoeren.
