The definitive concrete decoration of this Award was
handed over by the president of the Netherlands Fede
ration for Earth Observation and Geo-informatics, Mr.
Gerard Nieuwenhuis.
representative of the Royal Nepalese Embassy in Bruxel-
les, Mr. Bhagirath Basnet, and some ITC students from
Nepal.
At the end of the morning-session the president of the
Society handed over five of these ITC-Packages to
Mr. Bhagirath Basnet. To add lustre to this gesture a
Nepalese couple performed a Nepalese dance on original
Nepalese music. The applause showed that this was very
much appreciated.
The celebration was also a unique opportunity to pay
attention to the fact that Ian Dowman received the
Schermerhorn-Award during the ISPRS-Congress at
Washington in August 1992. At that occasion only the
provisional decoration of the Award could be handed
over.
Informal reception.
In between the presentations there was plenty of time for
informal discussion. During these breaks and the lunch
the participants took the opportunity to meet each other.
The summit of this informal gathering was at the end of
the day during the reception organized by the Board of
the Society.
All members of the Society, present at this 60s1 anniver
sary, went home with a tangible souvenir in the form of a
time globe and with the promise that the papers would be
published in a special issue of the Dutch Journal for
Geodesy ,,NGT Geodesia". This copy of NGT Geodesia
is the materialization of that promise.
