The history of the Large Scale Base Map of the
Netherlands
In 1975 the Government issued a Royal Decree concerning the
production, maintenance and publication of a Large Scale
Base Map of the Netherlands by the Dutch Cadastre. Also, a
Central Council for Mapping was established with the task to
advise the Minister on the policy to realise this task. In a pe
riod of 25years, with many ups and downs, the base map has
been produced for almost the whole country. In this article an
overview is given of the preparation ofthe Royal Decree and of
the period thereafter leading to the realisation of this map.
