Rijksarchivaris Roelof Hol voelt zich soms een archeoloog
bij een noodopgraving. Twee weken geleden nog stond
de directeur van het Rijksarchief in Noord-Holland in het
onlangs opgeheven Instituut voor Geodesie (landmeet
kunde) in Delft. De hal stond vol apparatuur en overal la
gen dozen met papieren: archieven van het instituut zelf,
maar ook van enkele illustere oud-hoogleraren die hun
spullen hadden achtergelaten in de kasten.
Vraag van de medewerkers: of er nog iets van Hols gading
bij zat. De archivaris: "Eind augustus moet het gebouw
leeg zijn. De apparaten gaan naar het Techniekmuseum.
De universiteit is verantwoordelijk voor de officiële docu-

Spatio-temporal model: basis of a spatio-temporal data format
This paper focuses on the complexity of importing time in GIS. A
triangular temporal concept is introduced which offers several ad
vantages against the classical linear temporal concept. The new
temporal concept is extended with the two spatial dimensions that
are fully supported by the common commercial geographic infor
mation systems. By this way a spatio-temporal model is created
which could be saved easily as a Spatio-Temporal File Format (STFF-
File). The model offers opportunities for a more profound analysis of
spatio-temporal data.

Vandaar dat Hol werd opgebeld. Delft ligt weliswaar in

gehuisvest in het voormalige Doopsgezind Weeshuis in
Haarlem, ontfermt zich over verweesde wetenschapsar
chieven. Het is de enige archiefinstelling in Nederland
die die taak op zich heeft genomen.
