CEN/TC 287 functioneerde van 1992
tot 1999, toen de TC 'slapend' werd ver
klaard door de CEN/BT (Technisch
Bureau van de CEN in Brussel). Gedu
rende de 'slapende' periode is de SNV
(Schweizerische Normen-Vereinigung
[14]) verantwoordelijk geweest voor de
ontwikkeling van de standaardisatie
in Europa; in afwachting van de nor
men van de ISO/TC 211 zijn echter
geen acties ondernomen.
Tot voor kort, werd algemeen aangeno
men dat de ISO/TC 211 (International Or
ganisation for Standardisation) het Eu
ropese werkprogramma op het gebied van GI Standaardisatie
had overgenomen en dat er geen noodzaak was om twee TC's
in het leven te houden. Dat was zeker het geval bij de aanvang
van de werkzaamheden door ISO/TC 211 [10], maar nu
de internationale
standaarden wor
den gepubliceerd
(zie tabel 3) zal Eu
ropa zelf moeten
besluiten hoe ze in
te voegen in de al
ledaagse praktijk.
De Nederlandse
gesprekspartner
van CEN is NEN.
ISO is geen acroniem; de Internationale
Organisatie voor Standaardisatie gebruikt
ISO als het Griekse woord dat "gelijk"
betekent, waarmee wordt bedoeld het op
elkaar afstemmen van de deelnemende
partijen die standaarden gebruiken voor
de overdracht van gegevens of het toepas
sen van hulpmiddelen, zoals voorkomt in
de woorden isobar, isolijn, isometrie, iso-
nomie.
