marktwerking. Wat natuurlijk blijft,
zijn de overwegingen om locatiege
bonden informatiediensten levensvat
baar te laten zijn. Een succesvolle
introductie en verspreiding van een lo
catiegebonden informatiediensten
moet ook gezocht worden in haar toe
gevoegde waarde en het relatieve voor
deel ten opzichte van andere informa
tiediensten, in haar kwaliteit, beschik
baarheid en complexiteit en in de af-
namelcosten voor de gebruiker.
Samenvatting
In de literatuur is een grote verscheidenheid
aan definities beschikbaar om het concept
van Location Based Services duidelijk te ma
ken. Ook wordt het begrip LBS door diverse
andere terminologie vervangen. In dit artikel
wordt een conceptueel model gebruiktaf
komstig uit de mobiele telecommunicatie sec
tordie het mogelijk maakt om (locatiegebon
den) informatiediensten beter te positioneren
ten behoeve van haar adoptie. Tevens wordt
daarbij een lagenmodel voor marktwerking
geïntroduceerd. Dit blijkt een krachtig instru
ment om de verschillende componenten uit de
LBS-waardeketen beter te benoemen.

Summary
A large diversity of definitions is available in
literature to explain the concept of Location
Based Services. Furthermorethe term LBS is
replaced with various others terminology. In
this article a conceptual model is used, origi
nating from mobile telecommunications,
that enables better positioning of (location-
based) information services for their adop
tion. A layer model for the working of the
market mechanism is introduced as well. This
is a powerful instrument to designate the dif
ferent components of the LBS value chain.
Keywords

tion services, applications
Résumé
Dans la littérature on retrouve une large
gamme de definitions pour clarifier le con
cept de Location Based Services (services géo-
localisés). Le concept est parfois décrit par
d'autres terminologies. On emploie dans le
présent article un modèle conceptuel, origi-
naire du secteur de la télécommunication
mobile, ce qui permet de mieux décrire les
services d'information (géo-localisés). On y
introduit un modèle a couches du fonction-
nement du marché. Ceci s'avère un outil intéressant pour mieux dé
crire les différents elements de la chaine de valeur du LBS.
