Cartographics specialiseert zich al meer dan tien jaar
in wat samenvattend 'journalistieke kartografie' ge
noemd kan worden. Dat wil zeggen dat, doorgaans in nauw
overleg met auteurs, redactie en vormgeving, maatwerk ge
leverd wordt bij verhalen in dagbladen, tijdschriften, bro
chures van tour operators, enz. De getoonde kaarten zijn
gemaakt in 2006 en 2007 in opdracht van het ANWB-maand-
blad 'REIZEN-Magazine'. Het betreft een toeristische kaart
van Dubrovnik en een thematische kaart/grafiek van grote
steden. Aan de hand van een redactioneel schrijven maakt
Cartographies het beeld in de vorm van een kaart bij het
verslag. Het eindresultaat kan naast de functie van illustra
tie ook gezien worden als informatief, waarin de aandacht
ligt op alle relevante zaken uit het beschreven verslag. Een
duidelijke en heldere informatieve kaart is de specialisatie
van Cartographies waarbij er voor elke klant een eigen, her
kenbare stijl verzorgd wordt.
Cartographies primarily creates cartographic producti
ons that can be grouped as news cartography. Working
closely with authors, editors and designers, custom maps
are created for newspapers, magazines, brochures for tour
operators and so on. These maps have been created over the
last year commissioned by the Dutch Automobile Associa
tion for their monthly magazine. It is a tourist map of the
city of Dubrovnik and a thematic map and graphic of large
cities. Using the editor's notes, Cartographies creates the
map visualization that accompanies the story. The end re
sult is not only an illustration with the article, but becomes
a piece of information in itself, emphasising the relevant
details in the article. A clear information map is the speci
alty of Cartographies, taking into account a personal, recog
nisable design for each of their clients.
