The New Map of the Netherlands
De Nieuwe Kaart van Nederland bestaat in 2007 precies
tien jaar en is voortgekomen uit een initiatief van
het Nirov en het Ministerie van VROM. De kaart laat zien
op welke plekken in Nederland de komende tien a twintig
jaar ruimtelijke dynamiek valt te verwachten, op basis van
de verschillende ruimtelijke plannen en projecten van ver
schillende overheden (gemeenten, provincies, rijk en water
schappen). Waar komen nieuwe woningen, nieuwe bedrij
venterreinen, nieuwe natuur of nieuwe infrastructuur? De
Nieuwe Kaart brengt de informatie die in duizenden plan
nen zit verstopt samen in één landsdekkend kaartbeeld. Er
is in Nederland geen formele infrastructuur waar iedereen
zijn plannen moet inleveren. De Nieuwe Kaart wordt daar
om 'bottum up' samengesteld door circa drieduizend vakge
noten bij negenhonderd organisaties. Op De Nieuwe Kaart
van Nederland wordt zo een 'best educated guess' van de
formeel geplande ruimtelijke toekomst geconstrueerd. Be
halve de locatie worden nog enkele plankenmerken vastge
legd zoals de plannaam, de omvang, het aantal woningen,
en de verwachte uitvoeringstermijn. Het bestand wordt via
een webmappingapplicatie gepubliceerd. Ook is het GIS-
bestand zonder kosten in zijn geheel te downloaden. Het
GIS-databestand wordt onder een Creative Commons-licen-
tie verspreid, waarmee gebruik en hergebruik van de data
wordt aangemoedigd. Ook is de lcaartlaag als een WMS/WFS
vrij beschikbaar.
The New Map of the Netherlands exists in 2007 exactly
for ten years and builds from an initiative of the Ne
therlands Institute for planning and housing and the Mi
nistry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment.
The map shows the locations in the Netherlands where
spatial dynamics can be expected within the next 10 to 20
years, based on various spatial plans and projects from the
various governments (municipalities, provinces, national
government and water boards). Where will new housing,
new business and industrial estates, nature reserves, water
retention areas and infrastructure go? The New Map brings
this information from thousands of plans together into
one coherent national map. Currently, there is now formal
infrastructure in the Netherlands, where new plans have to
be registered. The New Map is composed bottom up with the
help of almost threethousand professionals and ninehund-
red organizations. The New Map of the Netherlands thus
becomes the educated guess for the formal planned spatial
future. Not only the location is stored, but also additional
information such as the project name, the scale, the num
ber of houses and the expected building period. The infor
mation is published using an online mapping application.
The GIS data can also be downloaded free of charge and is
distributed using a Creative Commons license, encouraging
the re-sue of the data. The data is also available as a OGC-
compliant Web Mapping Service and Web Feature Service.
