met twee Richer-objecten in, sinds kort, de
kamer van het College van Bestuur van de
TU Delft.
Het is deze tachymeter van rond 1865 die in
het Historisch Nieuwsblad van November 2017
werd afgebeeld als de theodoliet waar Darwin
tegen 1835 moeite mee had!

Bij het symposium Rise of a Campus, georga
niseerd door de Afdeling Architectuur (Bouw
kunde) en het Team Academisch Erfgoed van
de TU Delft, is er een mini-tentoonstelling
opgesteld. Daar komen ook de vroegere geo-
desiegebouwen Kanaalweg 4 en Thijsseweg
11 in voor.
Er is een paneel met een foto met Jan Ebbinge
voor Thijsseweg 11, 35 jaar geleden gemaakt door
Axel Smits. Jan staat achter een automatisch
waterpasinstrument van Wild en had niet meer
het jasje van 35 jaar geleden. De tentoonstelling
is te zien op de derde verdieping van de Aula,
Mekelweg 5 te Delft en is tot eind augustus voor
iedereen toegankelijk. De aanleiding voor de ten
toonstelling is het verschijnen van het tijdschrift
OverHolland 18/19, waarin een vergelijking wordt
gemaakt tussen de campussen van Delft en Eind
hoven.

The Special Collections department of the TU Delft
Library houses a large collection of objects related to the
university's history. A unique group within this collection
are the land surveying instruments. These historic objects
played an important part in mapping the Netherlands,
from the 18th up to the20th century.
One of the highlights of this sub collection is the tachy
meter, made by Richer. It is an early example of a Total
Station', including not only a theodolite (for measuring
angles in horizontal and vertical planes) but an optical
rangefinder as well. To determine the horizontal distance,
additional calculations are necessary. Specifically for this
purpose Richer produced the 'tachymetrical slide rule'.
During the second half of the 19th century the Richer
tachymeter and slide rule were used in the Dutch railway
construction for land surveying. Until then horizontal
distances were still measured using a chain or tape and
a separate levelling instrument. With the arrival of the
tachymeter, the chain could be eliminated, improving
speed and accuracy of the measurements.
Tijdens het Geospatial World Forum in India
heeft Dorine Burmanje de Award ontvan
gen voor 'Geospatial Ambassador of the
Year 2018'.
Dorine Burmanje, bestuursvoorzitter Kadas
ter, is door de jury geprezen om haar leiderschap,
waarmee ze op inspirerende en betrokken wijze
de waarde en verbindingskracht van geo-infor-
matie uitdraagt. Dat doet ze onder meer door
overheid en bedrijfsleven bij elkaar te brengen,
waarbij de kracht van 'locatie' centraal staat.
Daarnaast profileert zij het Kadaster als kennis
partner voor binnen- en buitenlandse vraagstuk
ken, waarbij nauw samengewerkt wordt aan een
goede geo-informatievoorziening.
