Under the general supervision of the Director of Survey
and Mapping Service, the expert is expected to assist
in the training of national counterpart personnel in
map preparation techniques, including conventional fair
drawing, plastic scribing, photo type settmg, and
simple Photographie reproduetion procedures* he is
also expected to personally execute such work as
required.
A qualified cartografic technician with recognized
technical training or apprenticeship followed by at
least two years practical experience in map prepara
tion work. Professional capability in conventional
fair drawing techniques, plastic scribing procedures
and familiar with Photographie reproduetion methods.

Por the purpose of carrying out surveying and mapping
as needed in connexion with economic development
projects, the Government of Somalia has decided to
establish a Survey qnd Mapping Service within the
Ministry of Public Works. The Service will consist
of three technical sections in the fieldsfe of ground
surveying, photogrammettic mapping and map preparation.
The national technical staff will consist of approxi-
mately thirty persons. The United Nations has supplied
the project with the fundamental technical equipment,
and will also provide a team of experts which will
consist of one senior expert who will act as the
Director of the Survey and Mapping Service, one additiona
senior expert in surveying and mapping, and one associa e
expert in each of the fields of ground surveying,
photogrammetry, and map preparation.
