Datum. In addition to the above mentioned maps on the 1 40 000 and 1 100 000 Scale, the
following aerial surveys and plottings were carried out:
1. Coastal area (1958) Scale 1:20 000;
2. City of Paramaribo (1956-1959) Scale 1 6 000 and cadastral maps of Paramaribo on Scale
1 1 000;
3. New Nickerie, forest and agricultural areas, together with zönes along the main rivers (1956-
1959) respectively on scales 1 10 000, 1 20 000 and 1 40 000.
With the aid of these surveys and plottings the following maps were prepared;
A. Synoptical maps without contours scales 1 1 000 000 and 1 500 000;
B. Topographical maps with contours scales 1 200 000, 1 100 000 and 1 40 000 (contour
interval 25 m for heights up to 100 m and 50 m for heights over 100 m);
C. Topographical maps without contours Scale 1 100 000;
D. Contour maps 1 100 000 Southern Surinam (colour printing);
E. Topographical maps without contours 1 40 000 colour printing;
F. Contour maps 1 40 000; intervals 20 m (phototypes only);
G. Contour maps 1 20 000 and 1 10 000; intervals 10 m (selected areas only);
H. Map of Paramaribo 1 5 000 (6 sheets);
I. Map of Paramaribo 1 12 500 (two colours);
J. Map of Paramaribo 1 1 000 (several sheets).
The management of available photography and maps, ensuring their most complete utilization
and the development of Surinam cartography and all necessarv field work in connection with this,
is the task assigned to the Central Bureau for Aerial Survey (C.B.L.) established in 1948.
Systematic interpretation of aerial photographs by trained observers has resulted in specific
maps for geological, pedological and forestry purposes.
