denote technics and technology of cartography. Just in this case we encounter
great difficulties when establishing equivalent terms in different languages.
It is known that in various countries different methods of work are used to make
various types of maps. To establish correct equivalents of the terms, designating
these methods, it is necessary to compare different kinds of technology to make
serious investigations.
Execution of such researches will require a certain time but the quality of the
polyglot dictionary-glossary of cartographic terms will be increased. In the end it
will speed up the compiling of the dictionary.
In conclusion it is necessary to note that after publication of the polyglot dic
tionary-glossary of cartographic terms Commission II should not finish its act-
ivities. Drawing up new terms and their correct definitions should reflect the
development of cartographic science and map production which goes on rapidly.
Therefore the development of cartographic terminology should also continue. So
in future it is necessary to conduct systematic work on the changes taking place in
cartography and its terminology and on periodical renewal and additons to our
dictionary.
