It is therefore an important requirement to come to international co-operation in the matter of landscape Classification. For each of the classified landscapes a specific topographic legend should be made, which should be applied on both sides of an international boundary, where such a landscapetranscendssuchaboundary.Asthereis already international co-operation in the production of medium and small scale thematic maps and general topographic maps, it is now apparent that the need exists for international co-operation in that field of mapping which directs its attention to topographic landscape characteristics. Perhaps an I.C.A. Commission may see a task laid away here for fruitful exploration. Without international consultation, the diversity of topographic maps with a 'national tinge' will remain in existence.
