Two schemes are presented:
Scheme A: offset printing, positive plate making
(cost of 1000 copies f 971, -)
Scheme B: offset printing, negative plate making
(cost of 1000 copies f 975, -)
For screen printing, scheme A is recommended, but
with the images reversed to give R.R. positives
ready for making the stencils. The cost of 100 copies
by screen printing was calculated to be f 798,
It should be noted that in both Systems the text and
stick-down pattern is mounted on a separate overlay
and photographically combined with the scribed lines.
Sticking down the patterns over the lines would have
led to reproduction problems. The second main point
to note is that cut 'n' Strip is used for the masks.
This is an economical method here, for a simple
diagram consisting of straight lines only.
In scheme B, each plate is made from one negative
only. If a punch register System is available which
can punch plates, several negatives can be combined
directly onto one plate. The cost saving would then
be f 31, 50 on the cost quoted earlier.
Given the conditions stated, the cost of approx. 140
copies would be the same by offset as by screen prin
ting, proving again that screen printing, assuming a
fairly simple machine, is only suitable for very short
runs.
