bibliotheek worden naast de deelfilms voor de ver
schallende drukgangen nu de magneetbanden toege-
voegd, maar niet als zwarte dozen omdat we weten
wat de inhoud is.
Een overzicht van de stand van de karteringen van de
Bodemkaart van Nederland 1:50. 000 toont ons tenslot-
te dat van de bodem van Nederland een digitaal be
stand is opgebouwd waarmee Stiboka in Staat is haar
maatschappelijk aandeel ook in de kartografie te
leveren.

MAP OF THE NETHER LANDS 1:50.000
The soil is not the unchangeable element we live on
and tili we think it is: by land consolidation activities,
the increased pumping up of ground water for housing
and industrial purposes and by land development
measures changes in the soil occur. The biggest cause
for soil changes is constituted by changes in the ground
water table level, and these occur rather frequently in
the Netherlands.
These factors raise the necessity of renovation of the
soil map (of which the first sheets date from 1960), and
this started in the Netherlands in 1983. The updating of
soil quality and ground water table data for the soil map
is realized with the help of an interactive graphic
System. To this end soil boundaries and ground water
table boundaries are digitized. This new computer-
assisted procedure has been chosen especially, how-
ever, in order to enable the soil survey to produce a
Plethora of derived soil suitability maps at low added
costs.
