Summary
This is one of the papers presented in Rotterdam at
the 1984 Technical Symposium organized by the Dutch
Cartographic Society. The paper deals with thematic
urban cartography in Belgium, concentrating on
various urban atlases which were published since the
Sixties. Special attention is given to Computer atlases
of Flemish towns, in particular the Atlas of Gent,
compiled at Leuven University. In this atlas multi-
variate analysis techniques have been used to portray
the socio-economic, demographic and residential
strueture of the town by means of isopleth maps. The
maps are produced on a line printer by making use of
SYMAP Software. It is realized that the maps are now
capable of improvement.
