Summary
In spatial planning new possibilities have emerged by
computerassisted produetion of maps of acceptable
quality, in which map elements may be selected by
the map user himself. Computerassisted cartography
is no longer reserved for big agencies only: the equip-
ment needed is becoming cheaper and cheaper.
This paper deals with ways to störe data for further
processing, the equipment needed for computer
assisted cartography and the characteristics of geo-
information Systems. It includes two examples: a
mapping programme for microcomputers and the
application of a simple geographic Information System
in local planning.
