□0<3 LECTURER IN TOPOGRAPHIC CARTOGRAPHY m/f INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR AEROSPACE SURVEY AND EARTH SCIENCES The Institute is concemed with education, research and Consulting in surveying, mapping and information managementfor the exploitation and conservation of natural resourcesparticularly in developing countries. Extensive use is made of aerial photography, satellite imagery and digital techniques. The Department of Cartography is one of the scientific departments within the Institute. The emphasis of this Department's activities is on integrated map production and therefore it collaborates closely with the Department of Aerospace Data Acquisition and Photogrammetry. Due to retirement of the present lecturer, applications are invited for the post of He/she will be required to: - execute independently education and Consulting tasks in the field of cartographic representation, analysis, use, evaluation and communication of topographic information - act as Supervisor for M.Sc. theses - if needed, act as a Consultant in mapping projects abroad, particularly in developing countries - demonstrate active participation in the research activities of the Department, which are presently focussed on the implementation of intelligent tutorial Systems for Computer cartography and the procedural aspects of cartographic data analysis and representation within geographic information Systems - give guidance to other staff in research and Consulting projects - participate in the man? ment tasks of the Department. The successful candidate should: - have appropriate academic qualifications in geodesy (geography will also be taken into consideration), preferably with a specialization in cartography Boulevard 1945 nr. 350 7511AL Enschede. Telephone: 053-320330. - holdaPh.D.(orhaveaPh.D.in prospect) or have proven equivalent research experience in geodesy, geography, cartography, or any other closely related field - have at least 5 years of practical experience with Organization and functioning of mapping agencies, responsible for the production and maintenance of national topographic map series in analogue and digital form - have teaching experience and proven didactical abilities - be proficient in the English language; knowledge of other international languages is desirable and foreign applicants should be prepared to leam Dutch. Working knowledge of remote sensing, spatial statistics and Computerprogramming are highly desirable, as well as knowledge of and experience on the integration of analogue and digital techniques for the processing and updating of topographic data, Coming front land survey, aerial photography and satellite sources. In view of the ratio between men and women on the staff at ITC, in case of equal qualifications and abilities, preference will be given to a female candidate. Salary and conditions of employment will be according to Dutch Governmental regulations. The gross salary depends on experience and qualifications and ranges from Dfl. 3.209,- to Dfl. 6.908,- per month, excluding allowances.
