The public transport in and around Rotterdam is run by
the RET (metro, tram and bus). Besides this, the district
transport companies Westnederland and Zuid-
West-Nederland and the Netherlands Railways operate
within the Rotterdam area.
The Rotterdam area consist of 11 zones induding, apart
from Rotterdam, Viaardingen, Schiedam, Capelle a/d
IJssel and Krimpen a/d IJssel.
In Spijkenisse only the metro traject belongs to the
Rotterdam area.
There are various kinds of tickets, such as ticket cards and
season tickets. The ticket cards with numbered Strips are
avai/able and usable throughout the country.
There are cards with 2,3 and 10 Strips which can only be
bought in metro stations, tram and bus. Besides these
there are cheaper cards with 15 Strips (füll and reduced
tariff) and a card with 45 strips (only füll tariff). These
latter can only be bought in advance.
Ifyou wish for un limited travel for a day in metro, tram and
bus then there is the day ticket (only sold in the vehide).
Ther are various season tickets for regulär travellers.

Every passenger must be in possession ofa valid ticket.
Ticket strips can be stamped in the yellow automatic
Printers in metro stations, trams and in the articulated
buses of the district transport companies (the yellow
buses) and in the NS stations. A fter stamping your ticket
make sure that the data are correct. In buses the tickets
must aiways be shown to the driver. You may meeta piain
clothes or uniformed inspector in a metro, tram or bus.
On requestyou must showyour ticket. Ifyou cannot do
this, you risk a fine ofat least 26.50guilders.
The RET has a night bus network. These buses only ride in
the nights of Friday-Saturday and Saturday-Sunday.
Normal tariffs apply to the night buses. Besides that you
can buy a Single night bus ticket from the driver.

make inquiries at the Information desks in the
metrostations and the Information posts at Statiönsplein
and Zuidplein.
