opdracht een kritische kaartevaluatie uit te voeren. Het resultaat is in
een 'kartografisch handboek' neergelegd, hetgeen geleid heeft tot het
schrijven van dit artikel.

Due to the democratization ofmap pro-
duction, maps are increasingly made by
non-cartographers. As a result, the chan-
ce of creating 'wrong maps increases.
The use ofa cartographic manual can in
this case help prevent the worst mistakes
in map design. The author discusses the
motive for writing a cartographic manu
al for the province of Gelderland, what
the Contents are and the impact this ma
nual has had within the provincial Orga
nisation.

Suite a la democratisation de la produc-
tion de cartes, celles-ci sont dressees de
plus en plus souvent par des auteurs sans
formation cartographique, d'oü la pro-
babilite accrue de 'mauvaises cartes.
L'utilisation d'un manuel de cartograp
hie permettra d'eviter les erreurs les plus
flagrantes de dessin cartographique.
L'auteur de l'article explique les motifs
qui ont conduit realiser un manuel de
cartographie pour la Province de Gelder
land, en indique le contenu et precise
l'impact quavait ce manuel dans le
cadre de l'administration provinciale.
