The rise of digital technology in the graphic industry has
brought about several fundamental changes. Until a short time
ago this development has had no influence on the printing pro-
cess, that in fiact has remained unaltered. The introduction of
digital printing has, however, changed this Situation. In the
paper the traditional printing techniques letterpress, gravure,
offset lithography and screen printing are first described, fiollo-
wed by an explanation of the new technology of digital prin
ting. The relationship between this new technology and the
traditional techniques is discussedtogether with new applica-
tions.
