Summary
S. Bos, A. Bregt, J.D. Bulens R. van
Lammeren - Communicating spatial In
formation by 2D and jD visualisation
Keywords: 3D visualisation, communi-
cation of spatial Information, topo-
graphic cartography
The effectiveness of spatial Information
communication by 2D and jD visualisa
tion is compared in this research. A dis-
tinction is made between communica
ting information about individual ob-
jects and an overall impression ofthe vi
sualisation. The research was done by a
detailed survey among researchers and
students. It appeared that information
about individual objects is better com-
municated by a 2D visualisation, except
when the height of the object plays an
important role. Also for obtaining an
overall impression ofthe area, the 2D vi
sualisation performs better. The time
needed to Interpret the information is,
however, shorter for the ]D visualisation.

mante. Par contre, le temps nfcessaire
pour interpreter les informations est plus
courte en je dimension'.
