op dit gebied nog niet veel onderzoek gedaan [MacEachren,
1998], terwijl er nog veel vragen zijn [zie bijv. Blok, 1998]. Als
kennis Over perceptie en cognitie gei'ntegreerd kan worden in
visualisatiemethoden (ofwel, als - tot op zekere hoogte - aan de
ervaringen en verwachtingen van de gebruikers tegemoet geko-
men kan worden), zullen animaties misschien krachtige instru-
menten kunnen zijn voor het monitoren van dynamische ver-
schijnselen. Ze kunnen worden geexploreerd zonder dat het
nodig is om van tevoren een vraag te formuleren en gegevens-
componenten te specificeren, zoals tot nu toe gebruikelijk is in
een Gis-omgeving. Rekenkundige analyses zullen nodig blij-
ven, bijvoorbeeld om de sterkte te berekenen van een correla-
tie die (bijv. via visuele methoden) is gevonden. Het lijkt er
dan ook op dat dynamische visualisatie en Gis-functies een
complementaire rol kunnen vervullen bij het monitoren van
dynamische ruimtelijke verschijnselen.
