In the context ofa research project in cartography at the Universi-
ty of Utrecht, research was undertaken in 1998 into the manner
in which the appreciation value of a landscape can be mapped.
This research feil within the project Randstad in beweging (Rim
City in movement) set up by the Working Group on Cartography
and Design of the Netherlands Cartographic Society. Within the
project research was done into what is understood by the term
landscape experience, how this appreciation value can be visuali-
sed using presently available techniques and to what extent the
functionalities of the PainterClassic Software can lead to better
methods of expressing landscape experience.
