De provincies Noord- en Zuid-Holland en Utrecht publice-
ren sinds 1998 actuele wegwerkzaamheden in kaartvorm op
het internet.
Landelijk hebben de provincies verschillende convenanten
gesloten, waaronder een 'data-voor-data-contract' met de
Adviesdienst voor Verkeer en Vervoer van Rijkswaterstaat.
Landelijke en provinciale natuurbeschermingsorganisaties,
rijksinstanties en provincies in Noord-Nederland (Gronin
gen, Fryslän en Drenthe) zetten jaarlijks alle relevante geo
grafische informatie over de natuur op een cd-rom. Daar-
mee beschikken alle deelnemers over een compleet en actu-
eel inzicht in de beschikbare informatie (figuur 3).

The Dutch provinces have worked for many years with digital
geospatial data within many policy fields. These data are also
important for third parties. The inter-provincial civil Service
consultation group PROGIS hos made the case to provincial
officials for the cost-free provision of geographic databases: this has
a legal basis and it is good for society and for the provinces
themselves. The proposal will be considered sympathetically, but
the financial and legal consequences need to be investigated.
The provinces have their data properly organised but they are in
general not prepared for all the practical consequences ofmaking
data available on a daily basis. Some examples demonstrate that
the provinces are already active in making public their geographic
infiormation.

Les provinces disposent dejä de leurs
donnees en bon ordre, mais elles ne sont
pas encore en general en mesure de faire
face aux consequences pratiques de
livraison journaliere au public. Un
nombre d'exemples sont enfin donnh
quant aux activites des provinces pour
rendre accessible l'information geo
graphique.
