Spatialisations are spatial representations of non-spatial
information. They provide a quick overview and give insight in
the structure of large quantities of information. In this digital
information age there is a large potential demand for
spatialisations. Applying analysis and visualisation tools for spatial
information to create spatialisations can significantly increase
their value. Cartographers and other geo-information scientists
have a lot of experience using ofthese techniques, their knowledge
has rarely heen put into play to produce spatialisations. Research
and application of spatialisations would benefit from this
knowledge.

La 'spatialisationdes informations non-spatiales permet de
presenter un apergu rapide et une vue d'ensemble sur la structure
d'une grande quantite d'informations l'äge informatique il en
existe une large demande.
L 'utilite des spatialisations augmenter d'une fagon significative
par l'emploi des moyens et des techniques utilises normalement
pour l'analyse et la visualisation des informations spatiales.
Toutefois la large experienceen la matiere, des cartographes et des
specialites de geo-information n 'est que rarement mise en oeuvre
pour la realisation des spatialisations. Les recherches y relatives
pouvaient amplement beneficies de cette experience.

Developing map-centric location-based Services poses an exciting
challenge for modern cartography. Due to the limitations of
currently available mobile devices, existing applications use
extremely simple means of communication and representation.
This may explain the limited acceptance oflocation-bases Services.
The application of multimedia, using synchronised and
interactively linked cartographie representations, and the
development of matching user interfaces can increase the take up of
location-based Services. In this context, cartography has to develop
theoretical and methodological concepts for multimedia tele-
cartography applications. These concepts have to be able to take
advantage of the expected developments in telecommunication
infrastrueture and mobile devices. Further research has to address
the new ways of providing and using cartographie representations
on mobile devices in order to increase the value of location-based
Services.

Cette evolution represente un defi pour la cartographie moderne.
Actuellement les applications se presentent sous des formes de
communication et de representation font simplifiee et cela en
raison des contraintes imposees par Tutilisation de postes de
reeeption mobiles limitant la question desdits Services. L'article
postule qu 'une plus grande accessibilite a ceux-ci c'est-h-dire la
creation d'un marche de masse pouvant etre assuree par
l'adaptation de multimedia des representation cartographiques
synchronisees et interactives ainsi que par le developpement des
interfaces y relatif.
Dans ce contexte, la cartographie est appelee a elaborer des
concepts theoretiques et methodologiques en vue d'adapter la tele
cartographie aux possibilites ojfertes par les multimedia et ceci en
tenant compte de Revolution attendue des systemes mobiles
d'emission et de reeeption. Comme sujets de recherches ulterieures
l'article mentionne l'adaptation de la technologie de transmission
et de realisation des cartes aux appareils de reeeption mobile et
l'etude de leur application fonctionnelle.
