Kartografie', 'Kaartbulletin', and Kartografisch Tijdschrift'
constitute the face of d halfta Century ofDutch cartography. There
are only a few issues to be published until the conclusion oft 17
volumes of 'Mededelingen van de Kartografische Sectie14
volumes of Kaartbulletin' and 2p volumes of Kartografisch
Tijdschrift'. Together, these periodicals characterise the era of an
independent cartographic Organisation. The following periods are
discerned: dawn of the identity (1958-1968), professionalisation
(1968-1978), the period of automation with new questions and
answers (1978-1988), the shift from cartography to geo-infiormation
Provision and GIS (1988-1998), that makes the discussion of its
unique identity relevant again (1998-2005). Together, these
periods also show the face of a periodical: i.e. something that's
unique. This is true fior both the Contents and the cover.
In a historic overview, the various phases oft the development of
the cartographic periodicals are addressed. The author makes a
case fior a concluding index covering the complete cartographic
yield from 1958 until 2005.
Furthermore, he sees the integration of the cartographic profession
with the neighbouring fields of geodesy and remote sensing as a
new challenge to regain and disseminate the unique cartographic
identity. As part of a joint periodical of 'Geo-Informatie
Nederland' there are plenty of opportunities fior future editors to
establish the unique character of cartography.

L 'auteur, membre de la redaction de la revue pendant longtemps,
en retrace Les etapes Revolution: les changements de titre (pendant
17 ans: 'Mededelingen...', 14 ans Kaartbulletin' et 29 ans
'Kartografisch Tijdschrift') correspondent aux mutations
successives de l'organisation de la cartographie aux Pays-Bas,
articulee en cinq periodes h savoir: l'eveil de l'identite (1958-1968),
la professionnalisation (1968-1978), l'automatisation de la
cartographie avec nouvelles questions et nouvelles reponses (1978-
1988), la transformation de la cartographie en SIG (1988-1998)
la suite de laquelle resurgit la question de sa propre identite (1998-
2005). L 'image de la revue s'y adapte aussi bien quant au contenu
qu 'a la presentation exterieure. Apres avoir analyse les differentes
phases historiques de l'evolution de la revue, l'auteur plaide pour
l'etablissement d'un registre complet (1958-2005) de la moisson
cartographique.
Par ailleurs, l'integration de la cartographie, avec la geodesie et la
teledetection, dans une brauche professionnelle plus large l'aidera
retrouver son identite: voici le defis actuel que pourrait relever
une revue commune et integre sous le titre nouveau 'Geo-
Informatie Nederland'.
