topographical I SURVEYING IN SHELL Call 070-776165 for more information The Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies uses a great variety of survey techniques for their world-wide activities. The topographical departments in the group companies work together with teams of geophysicists, geologists and engineers to conduct exploration surveys and carry out engineering projects for the development of oil and gas fields. The extension of these activities in increasingly difficult and hostile environments makes it necessary to continuously exploit new survey techniques. For our offshore work we use the whole range of radio- positioning and underwater acoustic systems, satellite Doppler positioning and laser ranging. On land we make extensive use of satellite Doppler positioning to establish survey control, while Inertial surveying and self registering theodolites are increasingly used for detailed survey work. Surveyors with an adventurous mind and a keen interest in the application of new techniques find this work environment very challenging and rewarding.
