tot shillings en de tijd van maanden tot dagen. 2)
3®. Het heeft de duisternis en omhaal van woorden vervangen
door klaarheid en kortheid.
4®. Het heelt de gewone overeenkomsten zoozeer vereenvoudigd,
dat ieder zijn eigen zaken kan behandelen.
5°. Het verhindert eene geheele categorie van bedriegerijen.
6°. Het heeft een groot aantal eigendommen, die in waarde
verminderd waren door gebrekkige titels, op hunne werkelijke
waarde teruggebracht.
7°. Het heeft het aantal processen verminderd door de voor
naamste oorzaken voor hun ontstaan weg te nemen.
Nu zou men Torrens van vooringenomenheid met zijn werk
kunnen verdenken, evenwel ook de verschillende verslagen in het
Blauwboek van 10 Mei 1881 over de werking der wet uitgebracht
aan de Engelsche regeering door de besturen der koloniën Zuid-
Australië, Queensland, West-Australië, Victoria, Nieuvv-Zuid-Wales,
Nieuw-Zeeland, Tasmania, Fidji, en Britsch-Columbia luiden alle
gunstig. 3) In de koloniën waar de wet het langst in werking was,

pleted in the space of an hour, at a cost of ten shillings to twenty shillings.
No portion of the system has worked so beneficially for the community.

have not recourse to professional assistance, the prevailing opinion being
that the filling up of the forms is so simple that legal advise is unnecessary
but this does not apply to the bringing of land under the Act, bij applica
tions or transmissions of property, through death of registered owner, as in
such cases professional assistance is almost invariably ressorted toThe
real property Acts have greatly facilitated mortgages and leases, the simple
form of the mortgage and relaese allowing small sums of money, raised on
mortgage, to be promptly registered at very little cost, as professional assi
stance is not required in the preparation of the deed."
