LANDMEETKUNDE
International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics
Xth GENERAL ASSEMBLY—ROME, SEPTEMBER 1954
Resolutions adopted
A.Resolutions transmitted through LU.G.G. to the adhering bodies
of each country or to other international Unions.
1.Earth movements
The International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics resolves to
recommand geodetic measurements, to be repeated at regular time-
intervals, for determining relative changes of position of well chosen
stations in the horizontal or the vertical sense, the stations to be
chosen in areas where variations are suspected.
The triangulations, traverses and precise levellings have to be made
with sufficient accuracy for obtaining a precision of I mm/year in the
mean yearly displacements during the time-interval between measure
ments and are to be repeated in as much as possible equal conditions.
2.General adjustment of the European triangulation net
The LU.G.G. considering that the countries of Europe which have
participated in the first phase of the European triangulation adjust-'
ment are now determining the best procedures for continuing that
work into a second and more scientific phase, resolves that these
member-countries adopt the following program in so far as possible
1) complete the scientific analysis of the results of the 1st phase;
2) improve and complete the observations along the borders between
the various national nets
3) establish a standard base-line in each country using the Vaisala
method (or similar apparatus) for assuring a uniform scale in
all networks and for calibrating invar tapes and geodimeters
4) increase the density of Laplace azimuth and base-lines, either
invar tape or geodimeter by a uniform European plan so that
an overall accuracy of 1 part in 100,000 may be-«xpected; and
5) consider supplementing national nets or international connections
with high precision shoran in an effort to obtain greater accuracy
in the final adjustment.
3.Adjustment of the European levelling nets on the basis of gravi
tational potential
The LU.G.G. considering the great scientific value of a simulta
neous adjustment of European levelling nets, based on gravita
tional potential, resolves
to appoint a Commission, which should meet at an early- date,
