at the Hague. The Dutch Land Registry trains at this Institute its own
draughtsmen and calculators.
The practical training of the students takes place during their studies:
the future geodetical engineer has to do geodetical work during the summer
holidays. The greater part of this probation period, the student must pass
at an office of the Land Registry. The studies at the Secondary Technical
School are arranged in such a manner, that the whole third year must be
spent on practical work with that restriction, that only in the Netherlands
this work can be done.
The Dutch Land Registry only employs geodetical engineers who have
acquired their degree at the Delft University. After a probation period of
2 years, the appointment to land-surveyor of the Land-Registry follows.
Several large towns have their own surveying departments (Rotterdam,
Amsterdam, The Hague, Utrecht and some others), where graduates of the
Technical University are in charge. Some land-improvement companies,
which undertake large land-improvement works, employ for their extensive
geodetical works graduated surveyors. At this moment there is not much
to be said about those, who have finished their studies at the Secondary
Technical School. In 1957 the first group passed their final examinations;
the greater part went into military service.
About the experience already made with the exchange of students with the
aid of I.A.E.S.T.E. can be said that during the last few years, about 5
students went abroad to do surveying practice. It is hard to say in which
way this experience could be used for the exchange of certificated surveyors.
lr. H. J. VAN STEENIS, Utrecht:
50 a l'étranger.
a. frs.s. 1.2001.300
b. frs.s. 2.0003.000
c. frs.s. 2.0004.000
