aan het I. T. C. schrijft in „A Universal Classification to Photo-
grammetry": „If data must be filed, the system of classification
should be such that the stored information can be readily found.
In general, the most practical way is the adoption of a numerical
system of coding according to subjects. There is an urgent need of
such a system in photogrammetry for classifying and storing all
scientific and technical data, experience and literature. In order
to be useful in the complete field of aerial survey, such a system
should
1. include not only photogrammetry in the strict sense but also
existing and future related items, i. e. it should be universal;
2. not be a private system but sufficiently independent to be
used internationally;
3. be able to classify subject matter according to two or more
subject headings (e. g. large scale surveys for land classification as
applied in Austria)
4. be capable of classifying according to different points of view
(e. g. radar positioning, its accuracy or its personnel or its economy
or its patent position).
Careful screening of different classification methods have shown
that these and other requirements can be fulfilled in the best way
by the U. D. C. This is a logical and internationally recognized
classification of knowledge according to different points of view;
it had, however, one serious drawback: the existing section UDC
526 „Surveying, Geodesy" was impractical and, in fact, obsolete.
The FID requested several authorities to construct an up-to-date
classification in this field. The results of a close cooperation of the
Geodatisches Institut at Frankfurt and the ITC at Delft is a proposal
for a classification of photogrammetry to be incorporated in the
UDC. It is in accordance with the classification of literature, acti
vities and commissions in the International Society of Photogram
metry". We zien hieruit dat aansluiting is gezocht en verkregen
met het Instituut van Prof. Gigas en met de F. I. D., zodat alle
voorwaarden voor een goed resultaat zijn vervuld. Dit resultaat
ligt thans voor ons in de vorm van een ontwerp voor een nieuwe
indeling, waarin de Geodesie verhuist van 526 naar het nog vrije
symbool 528. Dit ontwerp zal als z. g. „Note PE" (Projet d'Ex-
tensions) voor de U. D. C., binnenkort door de F. I. D. worden ge
publiceerd. Daartoe is op 11 februari jl. door de Centrale Classifi
catie-Commissie (C. C. C.) der F. I. D. besloten. Na publikatie
wordt de PE aan enige honderden adressen ter beoordeling ver
zonden. Gedurende vier maanden bestaat de mogelijkheid nog
wijzigingen voor te stellen. Daaromtrent wordt dan in een conferen
tie nog nader beraad gevoerd. Tenslotte kan de F. I. D. definitief
tot de invoering van de nieuwe rubriek besluiten. Deze invoering
kan in het komende najaar tegemoet gezien worden.
