7- Judgment of test results
Evaluation or judgment of test results requires the comparison
of the achieved and the desired performance levels.
The desired level is defined from two aspects:
A
fig- 7
a) the application and related requirements on:
I) quality (defined by the accuracy of performance),
II) economy (defined by the time, cost),
b) the environments:
I) state of the art and knowledge,
II) ergonomie factors (observation system, tracking device),
III) physical limitations of the system (life time, rate of de
gradation, stability, friction, image quality, etc.).
The aspect of application is associated with the engineering
performance criteria, whi'e the environments are critical for the
statistical performance criteria.
If the achieved performance level is not satisfactory, the evalua
tion of results is succeeded by the analysis. A decision must be taken
about
I) acceptance,
II) adjustment of the instrumentsucceeded by a new test,
III) additional tests for obtaining more information,
IV) change of the "desired level"
The engineering and statistical performance criteria should have
been matched already during the stage of the system design. For
the routine tests, it is usually sufficient to determine the deterio
rations in performance from the initial state.
